Two Poplars in the Alpilles near Saint-Rémy

Vincent van Gogh
(1853–1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter known for his bold colors, expressive brushwork, and emotional depth. Though he struggled with mental health and gained little recognition during his lifetime, he went on to become one of the most influential artists in history. His most famous works include Starry Night, Sunflowers, and The Bedroom. Van Gogh created over 2,000 artworks, often inspired by nature, rural life, and personal experience.

This painting was created during Van Gogh’s stay at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum near Saint-Rémy. It depicts two tall poplar trees set against the rugged hills of the Alpilles in southern France. With swirling brushstrokes and bold colors, Van Gogh captures both the movement of nature and the emotional depth he saw in the landscape. The two trees may symbolize companionship or resilience—common themes in his later works.
