John Bauer (1882–1918) was a Swedish artist and illustrator known for his enchanting depictions of Nordic folklore and fairy tales. His work, characterized by mystical forests, trolls, and ethereal figures, brought Scandinavian mythology to life. Best known for illustrating Bland tomtar och troll (Among Gnomes and Trolls), his dreamy, atmospheric style influenced fantasy art for generations. Tragically, he died in a shipwreck at the age of 36, but his legacy remains through his timeless and magical illustrations.
